Tweety

We've concluded that most of the variations revolve around Tweety's eyes,

the two different copyrights, the 'thumbtab', and the hinge-hole.

The eyes break down into "plastic" eyes, which are a separate piece, and

painted or decal or stencil eyes. There has been no general agreement on

how to describe these. Rob offers this advice: "The older, Painted,

looks like someone, like myself, with no artistic ability, painted them.

Real messy. The second, Stencil, would probably be better described as

airbrushed. Very thin coating. Paint looks clean, but by no means as

clean as the way that most are done today, Decal. These are usually

perfect and the only mistake with them is the placement being off a little.

"It's really hard to tell the difference between the Tweety's. Some look like

Stencil, but might just be a lucky swoosh of the brush. I've got one that I'm

sure is Stencil, and a few that I'm sure were hand painted, but others I just

can't tell.

"I guess, for simplicity, the best way to describe the eyes for Tweety, would

be just Plastic or Painted. "

The copyrights are: "(c) Warner Bros Inc. 1978" or "(c) Warner Bros Inc. 1980".

The thumb tab, if present, will either sit at the very edge of the kicker

hole in the back of the head, in which case it is a thin thumb tab, or it

is positioned a little higher than the kicker hole and is a thicker thumb

tab.

The hinge holes are located on both sides just below where Tweety's ears

would be, if he had ears, which he doesn't.

Here below are some of the dispensers we discussed. I have abandoned the

E&LaS "A, B, C..." delineation system for the "1, 1.1, 2..." scheme.

1.0) Tweety, nf

Eyes: white plastic pieces, separate from the head, that forms the whites

of his eyes in "carved" or "inset" eyes. The blue eye pupils are scooped

out little divets, and are tiny.

Thumb Tab: No.

Hinge holes: No.

Stem info: blue 3,9 Aust. stem, nf, IMC 8. Bought loose, so there could

have been a stem switch. Version 1.2 may have come on a red 3,9 Aust. nf and wf,

IMC 8 stem as well.

1.2) Tweety, nf

Has small black pupils surrounded by larger blue pupils and is same as the above.

1.3) Tweety, wf

Eyes: white plastic pieces, separate from the head, that forms the whites

of his eyes in "carved" or "inset" eyes. The blue eye pupils are scooped

out little divots, and are tiny.

Thumb Tab: No.

Hinge holes: No.

Stem info: red 3,9 no country of origin stem, f, IMC 5. Bought loose, so

there could have been a stem switch.

2) Tweety 2, painted (almost certainly stencil) eyes, f

Eyes: smooth and flat. Neither the whites nor the blue pupils are inset.

No pupil divets.

Thumb Tab: No.

Hinge holes: No.

Stem info: red 4,9 Aust. stem, IMC 8. Stem has the "body part lip" on back

at top. Bought on card in a supermarket in France in 1995. This piece

came on this stem. Possibly old stock on the newer stem?

3) Tweety 3, painted eyes, f

Eyes: whites of the eyes are "carved," or "inset", but the pupils are flat,

and the pupils also do not have divets.

Thumb Tab: Yes. Thicker, and positioned about 2mm above the kicker hole

inthe back of the head.

Hinge holes: Some versions.

Version 3.1 does not have hinge holes.

Version 3.2 has hinge holes.

Stem info: yellow 4,9 "no country marked" stem, IMC 1. Stem has the "body

part lip" on back at top. Purchased in Canada MOC in June, 1997. Also

seen on a blue 4.9 China stem.

4) Tweety 4, painted eyes, nf or f

Eyes: have obvious brush strokes, and are both whites and pupils are

"carved" or "inset" in the face; the blue pupils are larger, but still have

the divet centers.

Thumb Tab: No.

Hinge holes: No.

Stem info: thin feet blue 3,9 Hong Kong and Yugoslavia stem, IMC 6, 2 and 5. Also has been found on a no feet stem.

5) Tweety 5, painted eyes, f

Eyes: whites and pupils are "inset"; there is no scooped out divet within

the pupil.

Thumb Tab: No.

Hinge holes: No.

Stem info: blue 4,9 China stem, IMC 6. Bought MOC in about 1993.

6) Tweety 6, painted eyes, f

Eyes: almost identical to Tweety 5 but the pupils on this piece are a bit

more oval, and less elongated.

Thumb Tab: Yes. Thin. Sits on the top edge of the kicker hole at back of head.

Hinge holes: Some versions.

Version 6.1 does not have hinge holes.

Version 6.2 has hinge holes.

Stem info: blue 4,9 China stem, IMC 6. Has the "body part lip" on back at

top. Bought MOC in 1996 from Warner Bros. store.

7) Tweety 7, stencil eyes, F

Eyes: Can have a recessed eye and flat pupil, recessed eye and pupil, or no recessed area at all.

Thumb Tab: Yes.

Stem info: red, yellow, 4.9, Austria, Hungary or no country marked stem, IMC 6, 7 and 8. Has the "body part lip" on back at
